(PHOTOS) Toronto commemorates Simon Bolivar and Hugo Chavez’s birthday

Members of the Latino community, students, activist, and Members of the Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Toronto gathered on July 24th, 2013 at Bellwoods Park in Toronto to celebrate the birthday and legacy of Liberator Simon Bolivar (born July 24, 1783) and Comandante Hugo Chavez (born July 28, 1954).”

Using this emblematic date, Social Movements from South America launched a call out in support of President Nicolas Maduro and of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela. This Revolution is based on the emancipatory ideas of Simon Bolivar, and was lead by Comandante Hugo Chavez since 1998. Today it is a reference for all the peoples of Nuestamerica and the world who struggle and dream of a different world.

This community event was an opportunity to highlight the achievements of the socialist and anti-imperialist countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua, in many different aspects specially in regards to a new economical paradigm as an alternative to capitalism, which includes several people Institutions such as: ALBA, Petrocaribe, UNASUR and CELAC, which all represent the efforts aimed towards building another America, more united and based on its own interests and not on the interest of imperialism. It was highlighted that this process in the region wouldn’t be possible without the development and consolidation of the Bolivarian Revolution, and of course, the heroic Cuban Revolution, especially during the hard years of neoliberal hegemony.

The attendants reaffirmed their unequivocal support for the President and leader of the Bolivarian Revolution Nicolas Maduro as well as President Evo Morales in response to recent events that took place in Europe.

This infamous hijacking of President Morales is another example of the provocations and dirty operations of the U.S. Government (and its European servants) that wants to do everything possible to stop the processes of change in our continent and cease the Peoples to be protagonists of their own destinies.
