Rally at US Consulate – Social Movements call for international solidarity as US threatens Venezuela

Rally outside U.S. consulate April 11, 2013 – 5pm from Avanzada Bolivariana, Toronto on Vimeo.

***Rally Outside US Consulate in Toronto***  When: April 11, 2013 – 5 PM Where: 360 University Ave, Toronto, ON – Outside US Consulate in Toronto

On April 14 the people of Venezuela will again head for presidential elections, and as the US and its puppets in Venezuela are committed to the overthrow of the Bolivarian Revolution and the possibility that Nicolas Maduro will become the new president of Venezuela, ALBA Social movements are committed to defend Venezuela against any destabilization attempt and interference that may occur ahead of presidential elections this April.

Therefore, ALBA Social movements have asked for international support in organizing activities and rallies between April 8 and 12 in front of US embassies, consulates and other representative offices around the globe.   These dates have been chosen, as they mark the anniversary of the April 11, 2002 coup d’état against the Bolivarian government orchestrated by the right-wing opposition. The coup was short-lived due to the fact that Venezuelans took the streets to demand the restitution of the democratically elected president, Hugo Chávez.

While the Bolivarian revolution continues to advance, the capitalist class is far from being defeated, especially now that Comandante Chavez passed away. The revolution has overwhelming control of the military, the oil industry and other major sectors of the economy, but challenges remain. The major confrontation is still with US imperialism and its allies in the region. Over the last weeks the aggression has intensified with Obamas administration and big business in the region attempting to undermine Nicolas Maduro as well as the legacy of President Hugo Chavez and the Bolvarian revolution.

***Peoples Forum at Beit Zatoun***   When: April 12, 2013 – 6:00 PM Where: 612 Markham St. Toronto. We honor the memory of President Hugo Chavez and celebrate the day Venezuela returned to Democracy.

We celebrate the defeat of the civil-military uprising that overturned the coup d’état against President Hugo Chávez, 13 years ago.  On April 11, 2002, the right-wing opposition supported by the U.S and the corporate media orchestrated a coup d’état against the Venezuelan government. The coup was short-lived as the Venezuelan People took to the streets to demand the restitution of the democratically elected president, Hugo Chávez.
