STATEMENT

We categorically condemn the new United States acts of aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela issued on August 25, 2017

We strongly condemn the new round of sanctions imposed by the White House against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela last Friday August 25, 2017.

Once again the Frente para la Defensa de los Pueblos Hugo Chavez-Capitulo Suroeste de Canada (Hugo Chavez People’s Defence Front-Southwest Chapter of Canada) raises its voice of rejection of the U.S. acts of aggression aimed at a sovereign Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its right to establish the type of government that the majority of Venezuelans have chosen.

The new sanctions aim directly at the heart of the Venezuelan economy by preventing “dealings in new debt and equity issued by the government of Venezuela and its state oil company.” The Maduro government must rely on the revenues from its export of its major oil resources to finance all social services to the people guaranteed by the Bolivarian Revolution. U.S. sanctions will be a direct serious blow to the well being of all Venezuelans.

The U.S. Empire once more is on the wrong side of history blinded by its desire to dominate the world. In doing so it willfully harms innocent people. Sanctions have always been a cruel and inhumane policy as we have seen in many other countries. In Iraq in 1995 more than half a million children died as a result of harsh sanctions and many more suffered serious malnutrition. Then U.S. ambassador to the UN, Madeleine Albright, coldly stated, “The price is worth it.”

We must never forget the dark history of the U.S. government and the suffering that it imposes for the sake of its own interests and imperial expansion. Iraq has resulted in a violent, terrorist-controlled and occupied country. We energetically oppose the U.S. designs of intervention that would result in a de facto occupation of the free and democratic Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

We must also condemn the so-called opposition in Venezuela formed by the extreme rightwing oligarchy that has called for a U.S. intervention. When a former Venezuelan mayor, who fled to the U.S. to avoid imprisonment for crimes committed, states that his own country, Venezuela, is a threat to U.S. interests and states “a military alternative may end up being inevitable for the U.S. government,” we must call that an act of treason and condemn it accordingly.

We call on the United Nations to raise their voices against this outrageous abuse of power against Venezuela that is also intended to be a warning to other sovereign nations to accept the dictate of the rogue Empire.

We call on the international community in general to publicly express their rejection of all U.S. sanctions and all threats of military intervention in Venezuela.

As a Canada-based collective, the Frente para la Defensa de los Pueblos Hugo Chavez-Capitulo Suroeste de Canada sends a strong appeal to the Canadian government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to urge the U.S. administration to end all sanctions on Venezuela as they inevitably cause harm to all people, particularly children. Canada should be a mediating party to end violence and bring peace in Venezuela.

Finally, the Frente para la Defensa de los Pueblos Hugo Chavez-Capitulo Suroeste de Canada states its firm solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution because we trust its democratic process established by the Constituent Assembly while constantly inviting the Venezuelan opposition, indeed the U.S. government itself, to end all calls for violence and partake of its aim for Peace.

Long live Commander Chavez!

Long live the Liberator Simon Bolivar!

Long live the Great Homeland!

All with Maduro!

Ever onward to victory!
